Training Duration

The full training lasts approximately 750 hours, including 180 hours of literacy, 250 hours of sewing and 320 hours of additional workshops.

Emphasis is given to literacy because it helps to assimilate the various modules (financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, use of modern technology such as cellphones, sewing, etc.) while preparing the trainees for the real work ahead of them. Skilled sewing requires a certain amount of experience hence the duration of the training.

The particularly technical modules require being able to master numbers and having a certain method of reasoning that apprentices who cannot read or write cannot understand. They are thus accommodated at the end of the fourth-month period to allow the apprentices to acquire a certain level of literacy before their training concludes.

The Trainers

The trainers are all BCI Mada staff at the center as well as ground partners from rural areas.

The partners support the curriculum through the sharing of inputs or by tools belonging to them. Local powers, at the level of the municipality of Tsiafajavona, are also valued: collaboration with the Basic Health Center and participation of local grassroots people.

Training Language

The training language is in Malagasy with an interactive and participatory approach.
