Women Solar Engineers

The “Women solar engineers” can become worried if waiting times for the arrival of materials are particularly long. They worry about forgetting the material that they learned while training. This concern is unjustified because they know it off by heart, even after more than a year. Despite any potential delays in the start of electrification, our trainees have always carried out their tasks well. If necessary, refresher courses are offered by BCI Mada.

The materials are of optimal quality and adapted to rural conditions. However, in some configurations, modifications may be necessary for use and maintenance. In conditions where the sky is often overcast, the recharge time may be longer or it may require higher power panels; the time of use of the materials is also reduced. In coastal areas, the salinity of the air must be taken into account and appropriate maintenance of electronic circuits is required to avoid rust.

The after-sales service at the level of the suppliers of BCI Mada must be well established in order to be able to maintain and optimize the components for the beneficiaries of the systems. The solar committee and trainees must have access to replacement parts for any defective components, and BCI Mada must be able to easily order replacement parts from the supplier. The testing of components before sending them to the villages also helps to avoid these problems.
